Honduras officials asked to telework after a new wave

Honduras officials will have to stay on telework on Thursday and Friday. The reason? A new wave of COVVI-19 epidemic and other respiratory diseases such as the flu that have already killed more than 200 people this year, the Ministry of the Interior announced. In a press release, the Ministry of Health also declared “compulsory (the port) of masks” in airports, border posts, cinemas, gymnasiums, shopping centers, supermarkets, churches, all health care facilities, educational centers “and all places where it is not possible to keep a physical distance” of 1.5 meters.

Lorenzo Pavón, head of epidemiological surveillance of the Ministry of Health, told local media that 216 people had died since the start of the year of respiratory infections, including five from the COVVI-19, a “really considerable mortality”.

The government has also recommended the population to wear masks again, to wash their hands frequently or to use disinfectants and to “avoid mass rallies in confined spaces”, as in 2020 and 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic.
