This Tuesday, June 24 in the evening, road police tried to arrest a driver suspected of transporting drugs to the E411 motorway. According to a press release from the Public Prosecutor of Thionville, two people were in the vehicle and got rid of narcotic products before passing the border. Belgian police pursued them on French territory even in the commune of Angevillers. The vehicle taken in hunting would then have stopped voluntarily and suddenly on the roadway comprising two traffic lanes in each direction. Also according to the public prosecutor a first Belgian patrol managed to avoid it and overcome it. The second, surprised, struck the car of the fugitives. The latter’s driver and passenger then fled: the first crossing the tracks, the second while staying on the side of the road. A police officer from the second Belgian police vehicle would then have launched himself in pursuit of the driver. After having crossed the opposite tracks to their direction of traffic, the suspect and the Belgian police officer were struck by a third -party vehicle belonging neither to the Belgian police nor to the national gendarmerie but to an individual. They died on site. The 35 -year -old policeman belonged to the road police in the province of Luxembourg. He was a father.
The passenger was arrested and placed in police custody for complicity in refusal to comply aggravated by the deliberate endangerment, trafficking of narcotic products.
Contacted by RTBF, the federal police indicate that “Unfortunately, we must confirm that a colleague died during an intervention on the D14 just beyond the French border. Out of respect for his family, his friends and his close colleagues, we will not give other details for the moment “specifies the federal police.
