The former municipal advisor Cathy Wong wants to return to politics. She will announce her candidacy for the town hall of Plateau-Mont-Royal on Saturday with Project Montréal, trying to succeed Luc Rabouin, who presents herself as mayor of the metropolis.
“I left because my children needed me, and I of them. It allowed me to rethink my political commitment. Today, I come back for my children, for their generation, to build a greener, more human, fairer city, ”explains Mme Wong in a telephone interview.
Elected for the first in 2017 under the Denis Coderre team banner, the main interested party had quickly crossed the front line to reach the administration of Valérie Plante in 2019.
Mme Wong notably chaired the municipal council, before joining the executive committee of the mayor Plante, where it was responsible for diversity and French.
His role has also earned him a leading role in the hot files of systemic racism or the protection of the French language in Montreal.
It is certain that I come back with a look that is different from that in 2017. I come back as a district mayor, so leads me to look at our city differently. And I want to embody a policy that does not ask to erase our family life by committing. Moreover, if one really believes in a healthy governance, politics should not be a career.

Its priorities, for the campaign, this fall, are numerous: access to housing, security mobility – especially near schools -, inclusive access to the city, cohabitation with homelessness. She also intends to clean the city and the vitality of commercial arteries a recurring theme.
In the opposition, the Montreal overall head, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, has still not presented a candidate for the Town Hall of the Plateau, but should do so soon.
“There is general dissatisfaction on the Mont-Royal set while Projet Montréal has been in power for more than a decade. We only have to think about the challenges of social cohabitations in Milton-Perc which deteriorates just like the fluidity of travel. The decision of the Plante-Rabouin administration to close access to Mount Royal will only increase congestion, “said Mr.me Martinez Ferrada.
