Detailed smartphone reviews

We offer an express test of the Nothing Phone (3A), very similar to its cousin, the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro. We focused on the differences between the two products in order to offer you a more complete opinion on the range.

The Nothing Phone (3a) is the declination of the pro phone (3A) with a short -length telephoto lens. It thus goes from an X4 equivalent on the pro model to an X2 equivalent on the model we test here. For the rest, the configuration is appreciably the same: same Snapdragon 7 S Gen 3 chip engraved in 4 Nm, same guarantees in terms of sustainability, the same OLED screen of 6.77 inch, etc.

We therefore offer an express test of the Nothing Phone (3A). We will dwell on the main difference: the photo part. We have also included a screen part, because, surprised, the two screens may have the same technical specifications, they are indeed different.

If you want more details regarding design, autonomy or performance, go to our NOTHing Phone (3a) Pro test which details these elements. They are exactly the same on the two products.

Price and availability of NOTHING Phone (3A)

The Nothing Phone (3A) costs 349 euros in its basic configuration (8 + 256 GB) and 399 euros in the more advanced configuration (12 + 256 GB).

Camera: Does the Telephoto X2 change the situation?

The main camera of the Nothing Phone (3a) is the same as that of (3a) Pro. The same logic applies to the ultra-angle. On the other hand, the telephoto lens was a little planed, going from an equivalent X3 to X2. So we are going to look at these differences with the photo scene of 01LAB.

Before that, let’s display a few shots caught with the two similar modules between the two smartphones so that you can get an idea of their photo quality.

Now let’s go to the photo scene. We therefore compared the performances of (3a) and the (3a) pro on their respective telephoto lens.

Let’s start with a well -lit scene. On the left is the photo of (3a) and on the right that of the pro.

Beyond the focal length which necessarily differs somewhat, there is a fairly different treatment. The (3a) has almost overexposed the scene, it can be seen in certain white textures which are almost burned. This gives an necessarily more natural rendering on the (3a) pro. Overall, the bitter is quite similar. In the corners, the (3a) pro is very precisely more precise, but not in notable proportions for an average user.

On the night scenes, the (3a) pro telephoto lens seems to be slightly more gifted for the exhibition.

Let’s go to the photo scene immersed in the dark. We have kept the order of passage, with the (3a) on the left and the (3a) pro on the right.

And there, surprise (or not?), The (3a) pro gave us a cliché to the colorimetry much fairer than its friend. Indeed, the normal 3A opted for a color temperature plunging the shot in hot tones, and this in a doubt too caricatured way. We also distinguish much more noise in flat gray and an accentuation of much stronger microdetails, which gives a slightly more artificial appearance to the image.

In general, therefore, the Telephoto X3 of the Pro Phone (3a) Provides a real supplement, in addition to its greatest focal length which can be practical in portrait.

Screen: a bit less good than the pro

If on paper, the Nothing Phone screen (3A) is exactly the same as the pro, we found that the slabs of the two devices are slightly different.

Nothing Phone (3a) Pro 2,32 CD / M²

Indeed, their calibration differs. The Nothing Phone (3a) is thus slightly less precise than its friend. It displays a less good delta e 2000 (DCI-P3), amount to 3.21 against 2.94.

In addition, our model was struck by an annoying bug: the rule dedicated to color temperature simply did not work. Whether we go to the left or right on it, the setting was the same. It is undoubtedly a simple bug that Nothing will be able to correct.

And also …

As a reminder, what you read here is an express test. We therefore focused on the differences between this model and the pro model. Let us mention anyway here some common elements that could interest you.

The design to start is undoubtedly one of the forces of these two phones. By focusing on a transparency game, exposed screws, and large flatness of colors, the Nothing (3a) really comes out of the ordinary. Its central photo block is unlike any other, especially since it is surrounded by the glyph interface, white LED strips that can be turned on and turn off at the whim of various actions.

Let’s also talk about autonomy in a word. On our mixed autonomy protocol, the smartphone took 5 p.m. and 18 min to go from 100 % to 5 %. A very suitable performance, which could be assimilated to the average. This allows him to hope to reach one and a half day of moderate use.
