Euro Hopes 2025: France eliminated by Germany at the gates of the final

Zapping Foot National Interview – The underside of amateur football, with Romain Molina

The journey of the French Hopes team at the 2025 European Championship in Slovakia stopped in the semi-finals this Wednesday, at Kosice Football Arena. Faced with a solid German team, the Blueberries lost 3-0, missing the doors of the final. It is the Germans who will face England, winner of the Netherlands (2-1), in the final this Saturday (9 p.m.).

A fatal start to the Blueberry match

Germany was quick to take advantage and shower French hopes. From the 8th minute, following a high recovery, Nebel served Woltemade in one-two. Despite a parade of leftovers on the bar, Weiper arose to open the right flat foot on the fly (1-0). A few minutes later, the situation worsened. In the 14th minute, a disagreement between Magassa and Lukeba enabled Woltemade to infiltrate and double the left-in to two stages (2-0). The young tricolors, knocked out, tried to react, with in particular a strike from Odobert on Atuboli (19th) and a center of Sildillia for Abline (37th), but without success before the break.

A second period without reward despite the opportunities

Upon returning from the locker room, the French team posted a better intention, but without managing to make a realm. From the 46th minute, Barry benefited from a fleeing center from Merlin, but stumbled at six meters on an impeccable Noah Atuboli. On the German side, Woltemade continued to be a danger, as on this heel for Weiper whose shot has come close to the skylight (59th), or this dish of law crushed by Weiper, released by Merlin (66th). The Blueberries have never abandoned, and Noah Atuboli had to release a high class (68th) stop on a head at close range from Barry, served by Tchaouna. Guillaume Restres also had to work in the face of a closed angle shot in Röhl (75th).

The cruelty of football hit the game stoppages when Barry saw his head cover on corner (90 ‘+1) hit the opposite amount. While the Blueberries were pushing for a goal, Germany ended any suspense. Brajan Gruda has indeed scored a third goal for the Germans in additional time (90 ‘+3), definitively sealing the fate of the meeting. The referee then ended the meeting after six minutes of additional time, confirming French elimination.
