1.3 tonnes of cocaine entered in a truck near Bordeaux, for an estimated value between 30 and 40 million euros

Last Sunday, investigators from the Bordeaux research section intercepted 1.345 tonnes of cocaine hidden in loading a heavyweight.

On August 10, a heavyweight from Spain was intercepted on the A63, near Cestas (Gironde), near Bordeaux. Inside, the investigators discovered an exceptional cargo: 1.345 tonnes of cocaine, distributed in a dozen bags hidden in wooden boxes.

The case begins in early July. The Bordeaux research section receives confidential information: a heavyweight would be used to send drugs between Spain and France. The Bordeaux prosecution immediately opened a preliminary investigation. The investigations quickly make it possible to identify two suspicious journeys of the targeted truck, connecting Spain to the north of Europe, thus confirming the reliability of the initial intelligence.

The market value of drugs is estimated between 30 and 40 million euros for a resale in semi-Gros, said Colonelle Christelle Tarrolle, head of the National Investigation Unit (UNI) of the Gendarmerie.

The driver in pre -trial detention

The truck driver is a 36 -year -old Spaniard, unknown to French services. He was indicted for imports, detention, transport and assignment of drugs in an organized gang, as well as for participation in an association of criminals. The prosecution requested its placement in pre -trial detention. He faces 10 years imprisonment.

According to the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office, the investigation continues to identify the accomplices of this traffic.
