The Scout camp turns into drama. On Saturday July 12, a 13 -year -old child died during a Chiro camp – the flamingo equivalent of scouts, in Leisele, on the Franco -Belgian border. According to initial information relayed by local media, including 7sur7, the girl has died of heart failure.
Victim of discomfort on the first day of the camp, she was immediately taken to the hospital by camp animators, but she could not be saved by medical teams.
“This is a heart rate disorder due to a hereditary disease,” said Geert Verslype, corps chief of the Spoork police area, the Flemish newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.
After the tragedy, the Chiro camp was evacuated and all the participants were recovered by their parents. “The camp will be evacuated today and the members will return home,” said Gert Stas, alderman in charge of the youth of the parish of Saint-Trond, who organized the camp, interviewed by the Belgian daily Nieuwsblad.

“Parents were informed and support staff was deployed on the camp site to welcome participants,” he adds.
“Everyone is deeply affected. It is terrible. There have already been many tears and adjoining. Everyone is deeply saddened, for each other and for the parents of the deceased girl,” reacted in the same media Els Van Doren, dean of the Catholic Association Chirojeugd-Vlaanderen, at the initiative of the camp.
And to conclude: “The members were all between 6 and 18 years old and did not arrive until Saturday. By counting the animators, they were 102. The camp was canceled and all the parents were called last night.”
