A 6 year old child killed by a drunk driver in Méru, the driver referred

A six -year -old child died after being struck by a vehicle traveling at high speed in Méru (Oise), this Wednesday, August 13. The driver, who had an alcohol level higher than the authorized limit, was placed in police custody and then presented to an investigating judge. The Beauvais prosecutor’s office requested its placement in pre -trial detention.

According to the elements communicated by Frédéric Trinh, a prosecutor of the Beauvais Republic, the facts occurred at the end of the afternoon, at the roundabout of the Manufacture, near the Méru station. The car involved was rolled then
“At too high speed”. Aboard the vehicle were five people. Also according to the prosecutor, the driver has committed “In the opposite direction” On the roundabout before getting on a sidewalk. The child, who was nearby, was struck.

The victim was immediately taken care of by help and helicopter in absolute emergency towards the Amiens hospital center (Somme), with a committed vital prognosis. She died of her injuries this Thursday, August 14, the day after the drama.

Many witnesses

The driver, quickly arrested, was subjected to a blood alcohol test. The rate noted was “0.64 mg per liter of expired air”or more than twice the authorized legal limit, set at 0.25 mg. Still according to Frédéric Trinh, “The exploitation of video protection cameras and the declarations of the many witnesses quickly made it possible to clarify the course of the facts, confirmed by the driver himself during his hearings”.

Presented to an investigating judge this Friday, the suspect was to be indicted in the evening. The Beauvais prosecutor’s office opened a judicial information from the chiefs “Road homicide aggravated by the manifestly deliberate violation of a security obligation and by the state of drunkenness”, “endangerment of others” et “Failure to master”. “Placement in pre -trial detention of the respondent will be required by the prosecution”said Frédéric Trinh.

Adopted by Parliament on July 1, the new offense of road homicide provides for a maximum sentence of ten years’ imprisonment and a fine of 150,000 euros when aggravated by two circumstances, including a security violation and a state of intoxication.

In his press release, Frédéric Trinh also wanted to underline
“His concern about the multiplication of bodily road accidents that occur on the jurisdiction of the Beauvais judicial court”insisting on “The firmness of criminal responses (…) provided to the findings of road safety offenses”.
