Jil Teichmann will play his fifth final on the WTA circuit in Iasi on Sunday. La Beluneoise defeated the Romanian Sorana Cirstea on Saturday, 6-4 6-3, in the semi-final of this category 250 tournament.
The Swiss leftist (WTA 102) will aim for a third title after those obtained in Prague and Palermo in 2019. Its last two finals on the circuit had resulted in defeats, in Lexington in 2020 and especially in WTA 1000 in Cincinnati in 2021 against the former world’s ex-1 Ashleigh Barty.
In Iasi, Teichmann (28) reacted well after being led 3-1 in the first round by the 53rd world. She returned to 3-3 by saving three break balls before winning the set. On its momentum, the Seelandaise rose in the second round, making a quick double break to finally win in just over an hour and a half.
Jil Teichmann will face another local in the final on the Romanian clay: Jaqueline Cristian (WTA 51) or Irina-Camelia Begu (WTA 110). Her good week already assures her to go up around 80th place and she could even earn ten additional rows with a victory on Sunday.
