A Mexican federal prosecutor murdered at the American border

A Mexican federal prosecutor was murdered on Monday in Reynosa, a border city in the United States, where drug trafficking, fuels and human beings were raging, the state of Tamaulipas, Americo Villareal, announced.

“The government of Tamaulipas condemns crime against the delegate of the FGR in the state,” wrote Mr. Villareal on X, using the acronym of the General Park of the Republic (FGR).

According to local media, the prosecutor, Ernesto Vazquez Reyna, was killed while driving in his company car in an avenue in Reynosa, neighbor of the city of Hidalgo in Texas.

“According to the first elements, witnesses have heard firearm detonations in the sector,” said Tamaulipas’ security services on their social networks.

Videos broadcast by the media showed an unconscious man on the ground, in a blood pond, next to a black vehicle in flames in the middle of a large avenue.

The FGR did not immediately follow up on AFP requests.

The state of Tamaulipas is the stronghold of the Cartel del Golfo, a powerful organization of drug traffickers classified “foreign terrorist organization” by American president Donald Trump at the start of the year.
