At the top of the Peyresourde pass on Saturday during the 14th stage of the Tour de France, the Ineos Grenadiers training car struck a person on the side of the road. The British training driver is expected to be sanctioned.
Big fright Saturday on the road to the Tour de France. A person – A priori a woman – who was on the side of the road at the top of the Peyresourde pass on the occasion of the 14th stage was violently struck by the car of the team of Ineos Grenadiers. The person dressed in a yellow and green suit fell to the ground. It is unknown if she is injured.
The vehicle behind the group of the Pois Lenny Martinez jersey wanted to join Thymen Arensman, only at the top of the race. The British training driver is expected to be sanctioned.
“The driver may be punished”
“We hope that this person is fine,” Jérôme Coppel, RMC Sport consultant, commented on RMC. “It is always very complicated in these passes. There are people on both sides of the road which is not wide. The sports directors must go up and ensure safety in the event of a runner’s puncture who is in the lead. They try to go up and the group of counter does not let them pass. There is not enough room and sometimes, unfortunately, we see this kind of image. The driver is likely to be sanctioned.”
And Coppel concludes: “For having been in the car behind the peloton, it’s really complicated when you have to go up the line. The tour is a perpetual miracle.”
