The iPhone 17 Pro would take three major developments on its photo part. Changes that would replace it in a better position in the face of Android competition sometimes more advanced.
Apple would prepare a small photo revolution on its future iPhone 17 Pro. According to “an anonymous informant” who contacted MacRumors, the next high -end smartphone of Apple would win:
- an overpowered telephoto lens with an X8 optical zoom,
- A new “Pro Camera” application with manual controls,
- An additional camera control button.
What transform the iPhone into a real tool for expert photographers.

X8 optical zoom to see further
This is the first major change mentioned by the leak: the iPhone 17 Pro would have a new telephoto lens with a Optical zoom up to X8. It would be a considerable leap in front of the X5 optical zoom that we have from the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This would allow Apple to compete more seriously with the most efficient Android smartphones in this field. Interestingly, this zoom could be “continuous”, allowing you to choose intermediate zoom levels without loss of quality.
A “pro cam” application for experts
The second novelty would be software. Apple would develop a any new “pro cam” application For photo and video. This application, thought for professionals, would finally offer advanced manual controls (shutter speed, ISO, white balance, etc.), placing Apple in direct competition with popular third -party applications such as Halide or Filmic Pro. It is not yet clear if it will be an entirely new application or a major overhaul of the existing final cut camera application.
A new button for a complete “pro” experience
To support these software and optical developments, Apple would add a second hardware modification. The iPhone 17 Pro would benefit from a “Capture” button dedicated to the photo. This mechanical button would be on the upper part of the phone and would complement the current camera control button located on the right edge of the iPhone 16.
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected alongside iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air. Their presentation should take place at the start of the next school year, in September.
