In recent weeks, Iran has been the scene of a series of explosions and mysterious fires that follow one another almost daily across the country. The Iranian authorities are now investigating what they consider as a systematic sabotage campaign, according to information reported by the New York Times.
Incidents affect various facilities: residential complexes, oil refineries, road close to a main airport and even a shoe factory. Several of the recent disasters have struck sensitive Iranian sites, fueling speculation on a possible sabotage campaign orchestrated by Israel.
Publicly, Iranian officials try to minimize these events, presenting them as coincidences or consequences of the aging of infrastructure, with the aim of reassuring a population still traumatized by the recent conflict with Israel and the United States.
However, in the context of confidential discussions, three senior Iranian officials, including a member of the revolution guards, expressed their conviction that several of these incidents result from sabotage operations. Their suspicions are mainly focused on Israel, given the history of Israeli clandestine operations in Iran, including explosions and targeted eliminations.
This situation is part of a context of exacerbated tensions between the two countries, after the war between Israel and Iran marked the region. An Israeli intelligence official has even promised to continue operations within Iranian territory.
A European official specializing in Iranian affairs shares this evaluation, believing that it is probably acts of sabotage with possible Israeli involvement, based on the history of Israeli operations in Iran, used both as a psychological war and to destroy strategic objectives.
