Accusations of foreign interference in France: targeted by an investigation, network X denounces a “political agenda”

X denounces a “political agenda”. The social network reacts this Monday to the opening by the section to combat the cybercrime of the Paris prosecutor’s office on July 9 of an investigation targeting him, and his leaders. They are suspected by French justice to have biased the platform algorithm for foreign interference purposes.

“On the basis of what we know so far, X believes that this investigation deforms French law in order to serve a political agenda and, in the end, to restrict freedom of expression,” writes in a post on X the public affairs department of the social network, property of Elon Musk. “For these reasons, X did not access the requests of the French authorities, as we have the legal right to do,” he said.

“Use of algorithm for foreign interference”

After two reports received in January, which “reported the supposed use of X (ex-Twitter) algorithm for foreign interference”, an investigation was entrusted to the national gendarmerie against the X network, as a legal person, and against the “natural persons” who directs it, said Laure Beccuau in a press release, without citing the name of his boss.

This comes after two reports received on January 12, which “reported the supposed use of the X (ex-Twitter) algorithm for foreign interference”, details the public prosecutor.
