Bottal

Being in opposition is no longer enough for the alternative für Deutschland (AfD). After the next federal elections, the far -right party wants to enter the government. Strong of his success during the last votes, for which he obtained more than 20% of voteshe now materializes his projects.

At the beginning of July, the party established a strategic plan to shape German policy-suppression of the fire cut wall and path to government responsibility. The website “PoliticoPublished the document written by the party vice-president, Beatrix von Storch.

AFD wants to tackle a fundamental problem. No one wants to work with her. Only Sahra Wagenknecht, bsw head (Alliance Sarah Wagenknechtor alliance Sahra Wagenknecht), attempts a cautious rapprochement. But as the party is not represented at the Bundestag, a collaboration would only be possible at the level of the Länder.

AFD estimates that its electoral potential can reach 30%. The party courts the CDU/CSU for a possible coalition. Here is how he intends to do it to convince.

Reduce fear

AFD is based on its electorate: the Eastern Germans, the workers, the young people, the Germans in Russia and the voters of the rural areas. She wishes to retain her base while conquering new audiences: those over 60, women, academics, practicing Christians and city dwellers.

The party also intends to improve the social climate in its favor. The objective is to pass under the 50% mark the proportion of people who fear it, support his ban Or refuse to collaborate with him. Before the last elections, two thirds of the population had spoken against an AFD entry to the government. The document evokes the need to create a more favorable environment. This objective must be achieved thanks to a communication that gives a positive image of the party. He likes to display his good humor on social networks.

Polarization

Will AFD moderate after its electoral successes? Rather no, if we believe the following point of the document. It is a question of “dividing the Black Red Government”. The party seeks to deliberately fuel tensions between, within the government coalition, CDU/CSU and SPD. You have to push the SPD and the Greens more to the left and dig the ditch between the CDU/CSU and the left parties. The objective is to create a clear split between the “bourgeois conservative camp” and the “left camp”.

So far, all the parties have distanced themselves from the German far -right party. But the latter relies on an American polarization: two irreconcilable camps, AFD facing the left, Alice Weidel, party leader, against Heidi Reichinnek, head of the left list. In this scenario, the SPD and the Greens should take a left turn to stand out. This would in turn complicate cooperation with the CDU/CSU. AFD intends to exploit these cleavages based on fundamental oppositions: the family in the face of gender theories, the nation in the face of the opening of borders, freedom in the face of socialism.

Try to conquer the right

AFD wishes to convince the CDU/CSU to become its coalition partner. To achieve this, she plans to put pressure on the two right -wing parties by depositing motions, particularly on the subjects that concern her electorate. It is necessary at all costs to challenge disappointed people and persuade thanks to impactful arguments in matters of migration and economic policy.

With Friedrich Merz At the head of the country, it may be difficult. The German Chancellor does not make my own opposition to AFD. Others, like the leader of the parliamentary group Jens Spahn, whose government seems to be breathless, could be less reluctant.

Focus on the economy

AFD is trying to position itself as the Party of the Social Market economy and to supplant the right on this ground. The situation would be favorable to him. The CDU/CSU loses credibility because of its reversal on the debt brake. During the electoral campaign, Chancellor Friedrich Merz had indeed praised the merits of the brake on debt. However, he lets his government today contract a record debt of 850 billion euros. With the SPD, structural reforms are not possible anyway.

AFD sees another advantage in its position on climate change. It regularly calls into question the human origin of warming and clearly defends economic growth “without taking into account left -wing speeches on the climate”.

Reserve in matters of foreign policy

AFD wants to avoid conflicts. Its mission is “not to create additional problems”. Potential sources of tension must be identified in time and defused thanks to rigorous communication. The document mentions neither Ukraine, the war in Gaza, Donald Trump, nor Elon Muskwith whom Alice Weidel had a very noticed interview in January.

But nothing is left to chance. In terms of foreign policy, fractures within the party appear very clearly. Many AFD politicians went to Russia and have relayed the propaganda of the Kremlin. The party’s co-president recently pronounced in favor of a “partnership relationship” and a dialogue with the United States. Putting the side of agreement risks being difficult. From a strategic point of view, it therefore seems judicious to avoid the subject.
