The airline Air Canada said on Sunday that it suspended the recovery of its flights announced earlier during the day due to the pursuit of a strike by its hostesses and stewards.
Air Canada “suspended its partial flight recovery project (…) after the Canadian Public Service Syndicate (SCFP) illegally ordered its on -board agents to disobey a Directive of the Canadian Industrial Relations Council (CCRI) enjoining them to regain work,” said the largest Canadian airline on its site.
Earlier in the day, Air Canada announced the gradual recovery of its flights on Sunday. This decision took place after the government’s intervention to end the strike of 10,000 hostesses and stewards launched the day before and which paralyzes the airline activities. Early Saturday morning, Air Canada hostesses and stewards disengaged due to a wage conflict. The strike led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights.
The Canadian Industrial Relations Council (CCRI) “ordered Air Canada to resume its activities and all Air Canada and Red Air Canada agents (Editor’s note: Air Canada Air Costs) to resume their duties before 2 p.m. (Editor’s note: 8 p.m. Swiss time) On August 17, 2025, ”said Air Canada in a statement.
The Canadian Public Service Syndicate (SCFP), which represents them, had warned that its members are pursuing the strike until the government forced them to resume work. In addition to wage increases, the union’s claims concern unpaid ground work, according to him, especially during shipments.
Air Canada transports 130,000 passengers per day and serves 180 cities by direct flights worldwide.
