“Integrating Aksel into my team for this season seems to be a natural and incredibly exciting step. We have shared so many stories on the mountain, from training to World Cup victory,” said Lindsey Vonn (41), quoted in a press release from his ski equipment supplier.
“Over the years of training and race together, Lindsey and I have built a lot of confidence and respect. I felt that I could have an impact quickly. I was a little surprised when Lindsey called me, but above all Honoré,” said Svindal.
A huge asset
Their collaboration started this summer during a training course in Chile. “His knowledge of sport, in particular with regard to equipment and racing strategy, is unrivaled and I have always appreciated his ideas. Having it officially in my team while we are visiting the Cortina Olympic Games is a huge asset,” said Vonn.
Vonn and Svindal, respectively quadruple and double winners of the World Cup, were the two stars of the discipline in the 2010s, on and outside the track. The American, Olympic descent champion (2010) signed 82 victories in the World Cup, the Norwegian, double Olympic champion (Super-G in 2010 and descent in 2018), winning 36 times.
