(Ottawa) Ottawa insists that he did not send lethal weapons to Israel, a few days after the publication of a report indicating that, according to Israeli customs data, Canadian weapons are still regularly exported to the Hebrew state.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anita Anand, said in a declaration on Friday that the articles that the Israeli tax administration identified as “bullets” were in reality “projectiles of the paintball type” unusable in combat, even if the bullets were identified by the authority as “war ammunition and their spare parts”.

The government’s statement comes three days after the publication by a coalition of Canadian defenders of the Palestinians of a report reporting multiple Canada expeditions to Israel, one identified as “tanks and other armored combat vehicles” or parts of such vehicles.

Mme Anand described the report as “erroneous” and insisted that Canada still blocks military export permits for any material likely to be used in Gaza.

Parliament voted in favor of a non -binding motion in March 2024 to suspend the granting of new arms export permits to Israel, and the government later announced an examination of existing export permits.

The groups behind the Tuesday report suggest that the government has misleaded Parliament on Canadian arms exports to Israel.
