Bottal

It is a visibly lucrative scam that reveals “The Messenger” This Tuesday. Between the end of 2024 and early 2025, an individual domiciled in Annemasse would have ripped off many victims, between Sciez and Chamonix, by posing as a banking advisor.

The fraud scenario was rather controlled: the victims first received a telephone call alerting them from a suspicious levy on their bank account. Then, they were put in touch with an alleged fraud advisor, who announced to them that a bank’s courier would come at home to recover their bank cards and confidential codes. Obviously, none of this was true.

Soon tried in Thonon-les-Bains

The survey allowed the gendarmes to discover 20,000 euros in cash and several bank cards held by the individual. The suspect, who recognized the facts, will soon be tried at the judicial court of Thonon-les-Bains. He faces up to 5 years in prison and 375,000 euros fine.

To avoid this type of scam, “the messenger” recalls the advice of the gendarmerie: never communicate his bank information by phone and keep in mind that no bank will send a courier to recover a bank card. If in doubt, it is better to hang up immediately and contact your bank directly.
