Anxious not to “disturb the faithful”, the bishop of Angers cancels the promotion of a priest sentenced to detention of child pornographic images

After promoting Chancelier a priest, convicted in 2017 for the detention of child pornographic images, the Archbishop of Angers finally announced to give up this choice.

Bishop of Angers, Mgr Emmanuel Delmas, decided to return to the recent promotion of a priest, sentenced in 2017 to a prison sentence for the detention of child pornographic images, in order to avoid “adding to the disorder of the faithful”, we learned this Friday, August 15 from the diocese.

“Conscious that the charges entrusted in particular – notary and delegate for social protection of the clergy – could arouse a misunderstanding, and were likely to add to the disorder of the faithful, Mgr Emmanuel Delmas and Father Joseph Renaud decided by mutual agreement to give it up”, from August 12, said the diocese of Angers to AFP, confirming information from Mediapart.

Promotion of a priest sentenced for rape in Toulouse

The 76 -year -old priest was sentenced in 2017 to two years in prison in 2017, including four months firm for the detention of child pornographic images which he had downloaded to the computer of his parish.

Today he exercises “different charges which were entrusted to him after the execution of his sentence” but “none of these charges implies being in contact with minors”, underlines the diocese of Angers.

In Toulouse, the promotion in early June by the archbishop of another priest, this time condemned for rape on a minor, also caused a stir in the Church of France where voices amounted to say their “stupor” and their “indignation”.

The Archbishop of Toulouse, Guy de Kerimel, appointed to the post of Chancellor the priest Dominique Spina, sentenced in 2006 to five years in prison, one of whom was suspended for the rape of a 16 -year -old high school student in 1993. He said he “took the side of mercy” to name this priest, to whom he has “nothing to blame”, in an “administrative function”.
