Belgium officially crosses its second heat wave of summer

Thanks to a drop in temperatures thanks to maritime air from the North Sea, Belgium will be released on Saturday from the warning phase of its “strong heat and ozone peaks” plan. Mercury will decrease, and the ozone concentrations in the air will also decrease, indicates this Friday the Interregional Environment cell (Celine).

The warning phase was launched on Thursday, August 7, for the next day. This is the case when the difference in maximum temperatures expected in Uccle for the following 5 days, compared to the 25 ° C bar, reached or exceeds 17 degrees.

To leave it, the expected temperature must imperatively pass under 25 ° C, and this will be precisely the case on Saturday, where we plan a maximum of 24 ° to Uccle. It will also be cooler the following days, except Tuesday, when a “temperature rebound” is expected, but which is “not intended to last”.

Ozone concentrations, which are largely evolving with heat, will remain high this Friday, but without exceeding the European information threshold (180 µg/m³). They will decrease from Saturday, according to the Celine cell.

Beyond the warning phase, there is also an alert phase, where the authorities can consider, for example, to cancel or postpone events to avoid any unnecessary risk. In the warning phase, it is above all a question of recalling the good gestures, certainly for fragile audiences (small children, elderly and/or isolated): drink water, enough and regularly, avoid going out at the hottest moments of the day, avoid physical efforts, protect yourself from the sun, worry about his loved ones.
