In order to improve access to affordable and sustainable housing, the government has today announced funding of more than $ 11.1 million for the Urban Village in Port Hardy. The residential ensemble, located at 8925, Park Drive, will have 27 apartments in three low -height buildings. It will offer housing, two and three bedrooms. Construction is undertaken by the K’Awat’Si Construction Company, a subsidiary of the company K’Awat’si Economic Development Corporation (KEDC), Economic Development Organization of the Gwa’Sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw nations.

- The funding provided for the Urban Village is as follows:
- $ 11.16 million in the federal government, through the affordable housing fund for the national housing strategy;
- $ 6.07 million in the British Columbia province, through BC Housing, as part of the indigenous Housing Fund, in addition to annual operating financing;
