Canada condemns Israel for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza

In a message published on X, Carney said that Israeli control of the aid distribution should be replaced by a “full supply” of humanitarian aid led by international organizations.

“Canada calls on all parties to negotiate an immediate and good faith ceasefire,” he said. We reiterate our calls to Hamas to immediately release all hostages and to the Israeli government to respect the territorial integrity of the West Bank and Gaza. ”

The Israeli Parliament approved on Wednesday a symbolic motion aimed at annexing the West Bank. The annexation of the West Bank could make the creation of a viable Palestinian State impossible alongside Israel, considered an international scale as the only realistic solution to the conflict.

Carney said Canada supported a two -state solution, Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand, who should participate in a United Nations Conference on this issue in New York next week.

Ms. Anand pointed out that it was “inexcusable” that the women and children of Gaza do not have adequate access to food and water.

“The Israeli government should allow humanitarian aid to reach Palestinian civilians without obstacle, which have an urgent need,” she wrote on X.

These statements have taken place the same day that French president Emmanuel Macron announced that his country is recognizing Palestine as a state.

In a publication on X, Macron declared that he would formalize this decision at the United Nations General Assembly in September.

“The urgency today is that the war in Gaza ceases and that the civilian population is saved,” he wrote.

This essentially symbolic decision increases diplomatic pressure on Israel, while war and humanitarian crisis rage in the Gaza Strip.

France is now the greatest Western power to recognize Palestine, and this decision could open the way to other countries. More than 140 countries recognize a Palestinian state, including more than a dozen in Europe.

The Palestinians claim an independent state in occupied West Bank, in East Jerusalem and annexed Gaza, territories occupied by Israel during the War of the Middle East of 1967.

Canada is part of around twenty countries, including the United Kingdom, Japan and Australia, which this week published a joint declaration calling in the immediate end of the war in Gaza.
