In an interview with LCN, Mr. Mercier stressed that 90% of Canadian exports are protected under the North American free trade agreement (ACEUM) and that, despite the threats of Donald Trump, Canada benefits from an advantageous position compared to other countries.
“We realize in Canada that we are protected by the free trade agreement between Canada, [les] UNITED STATES [et le] Mexico, because the only goods on which there are prices of 35% now are those that are not covered. […] Up to 90% of our exports there [sont] Protected by this agreement, an agreement that Donald Trump cannot tear overnight, “said the political analyst.
Mr. Mercier also highlighted the incongruities of Trump’s policy in terms of prices.
«[Ce] Who is funny is that what Donald Trump says is, look: “You want to have access to the American market, you are going to have prices, but you won’t impose me”», paraphrasé M. Mercier as an example.
