“On Monday, we were in Old Quebec and it was absolutely bitter,” said Violaine Pilon, a mother met at the Mega Parc des Galeries de la Capitale with her family. We decided to come back and enjoy it with the children. ”

Hundreds of families have imitated Mme Pilon and the amusement park has not dotted throughout the day.

“We expected quiet days after the end of the construction holidays, but it’s very busy since yesterday. People come to enjoy air -conditioned air, ”says Bianka Lachance, an employee of a mega park food kiosk.

Around dinner time, the catering areas of the capital galleries and the Laurier square were also extremely busy.

Resourceful tourists

Coming as a getaway to Quebec with their twins of barely two months, the young Montreal Wahaj Uddin and Hasian Rahea had to fall back on interior activities due to the heat.

“Yesterday, we were at the Valcartier holiday village and it was very hot. We had planned to visit more, but we finally decided to go for a walk in the shopping center to preserve us and protect the children of the sun, ”says Mme Rahea.

Originally from Ottawa, Kim Chamberland had long planned this visit to Quebec with her family and that of her brother. Although she would have preferred to be able to spend more time outside during her stay, she knows that the day at the Mega Parc will remain engraved in the memory of all the children who have made the trip.

“It’s a great place to entertain children and it feels good to get a little heat because it was already like that in Ottawa before we leave!”

Others, like Denise and Raymond Poitras, rather fled the unbearable heat of their residence by coming to rummage in the shops.

“There is not much to do when it is hot like that, that you don’t have a swimming pool or air conditioned. We walk in the purchasing centers and we stay in the fresh, ”notes the lady of a certain cross -age to Laurier Québec.

Desert cinemas

Contrary to what one might think, the extreme heat did not bring the manna hoped for in three cinemas contacted by The newspaper.

“Honestly, the day is long,” said a cinema at the Cineplex Odeon group in Quebec at the other end of the line.

Not a record

Although Tuesday’s day may have seemed worse than that of the day before due to the relative humidity rate that oscillated between 50% and 60%, Mercury did not go up to a record level, according to Environment Canada.

“There was no new daily record,” said meteorologist Steven Fisonfeder. Monday, it went near to break a record of 1876 [33,3°C]but Tuesday it was already seen for a August 12. ”

The hot temperatures will continue until the night of Wednesday to Thursday, after which a cold front from the west will bring the mercury down to the seasonal averages.
