Connected but without screen glasses at Samsung

Samsung would develop internally a pair of connected glasses expected by the end of next year, according to information reported by the Korean media Fled. This model would not be linked to the “Moohan” project, the Android XR helmet designed with Google, nor to future AR glasses equipped with a screen that the two groups plan to launch.

A boom market

These new glasses would get closer to the concept of Meta Ray-Ban: no screen to display content, but a set of audio and video tools (micro, speaker, camera) to capture and share moments, or interact with a voice assistant. The experience would be similar to that of connected headphones type Pixel Buds, but with visual functionalities thanks to the integrated camera.

The project, which would have already been spotted in leaks in 2023, seems to have been delayed from the initial calendar. Samsung would now target a launch at the end of 2025, while the XR helmet is also still planned for this year. But there is little risk that these two products can be cannibal.

Samsung would see in these glasses a means of winning in a segment that is experiencing strong growth. The absence of a screen would reduce the price and interest a wider audience, while constituting a gateway to the universe of connected glasses. Currently, Meta dominates this niche with its Ray-Ban, marketed around € 300.

The connected glasses market, valued at $ 253.5 billion this year, could exceed 1,600 billion by 2032. The boom in artificial intelligence, especially that of chatbots, has strengthened the attraction for these devices capable of interacting in real time with their environment and sharing what the user sees and hears.

This initiative does not mean that Samsung abandons high -end augmented reality: the group continues its partnership with Google on glasses and a helmet with screens, potential competitors of Apple Pro Vision. But by developing its own range, the brand would give itself the possibility of competing directly with its partners, as is already the case on the smartphones market.

Other tech behemoths are also on the spot. Apple would prepare its first pair (for the end of the year too?), Xiaomi has already launched a model equipped with AI, and Meta is working on a screen version of its Ray-Ban. This effervescence shows the manufacturers’ desire to position themselves on what could ultimately become a partial successor to the smartphone.
