“We are going to. first, put a low customs right on pharmaceutical products, but, in a year, a year and a half maximum, it will be 150% and then it will be 250% because we want drugs made in our country,” said the head of state in a CNBC television channel interview.

In early July. Donald Trump said he would impose a 200% surcharge on pharmaceutical products imported into the United States if production was not quickly repatriated to American soil.

From now on. it initially anticipates customs duties: 250% envisaged drugs “a low customs right” on these products, but “in a year, a year and a half maximum, it will be 150% and then 250%, because we want drugs made in our country”.

At the same time. the American president wishes to lower medication prices, on average significantly higher than in the vast majority of other industrialized countries.

In letters sent last week to 17 companies in the sector. he asked them to lower the prices of their products under penalty of reprisals, giving them until September 29 to present “firm commitments” in this direction.
