Foreign Ministers in European Union countries are meeting urgently on Monday, seeking to weigh on the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, for the fear of an agreement on Ukraine at the expense of kyiv.
Europeans have been trying to make a common front since the announcement of the Alaska’s outfit on Friday of a summit bringing together the American and Russian presidents.
There must be a question, according to Donald Trump, of a possible agreement providing for “exchanges of territories” to put an end to the conflict launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
As it stands, the presence of the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky is not planned, even if it remains “possible”, according to the United States ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker.
Call not to give in to Putin’s requirements
A few hours before the meeting – in videoconferencing – of the ministers of the EU member states, in the presence of their Ukrainian counterpart, Mr. Zelensky once again called for not yielding to the requirements of Vladimir Putin.
“Russia refuses to stop the massacres and must therefore not receive rewards or advantages. And it is not only a moral position, it is a rational position, “wrote the Ukrainian president on Facebook. “The concessions do not persuade a killer,” he added.
For the head of diplomacy of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, any agreement between the United States and Russia “must include Ukraine and the EU” because “it is a question of security for Ukraine and for the whole of Europe”.
No press conference at the end of the interviews is scheduled.
