Don’t eat this bread

For gastroenterologist Alasdair Scott, this type of bread can promote the development of colon and intestine cancer. The doctor relies on the publication of a study which calls into question a series of ultra-transformed foods to warn the general public about his eating habits.

Food plays a major role in the good health of the body and can even be one of the risk factors in the face of certain diseases such as colon cancer and intestine cancer. A study shared in BMJ columns reveals a close link between the consumption of ultra-transformed foods And the manifestation of mental, heart diseases or cancers.

Research that prompted a doctor sounded the alarm as to this type of bread which can promote colon and intestine cancers. “With regard to cancer, the study has shown an association between increased UPF consumption and the development of these diseases. And the development of intestine cancer shows the strongest association with UPF consumption”explains Alasdair Scott, an American gastroenterologist in the columns of Gloucestershire Live.

Avoid processed foods

When it evokes UPF, the specialist refers to foods that include additives or is highly processed. Two types of foods that, according to him, play an important role in the development of intestine cancer. “First of all, UPFs do not have the nutritional value of whole foods. Less fiber, less protein and fewer vitamins, antioxidants and polyphenols”explains the doctor.

And add: “Thus, when we replace whole foods with ultra-transformed foods, we remove a large part of the health benefits that we could have drawn from these foods”. The specialist points to the harmful role of additives on the body. “The additives contained in the UPFs can have direct negative effects. In particular, it has been shown that unwelling sweeteners, emulsifiers and nitrates/nitrites modify the intestinal microbiome, which could play a role in the development of colon cancer”explains the gastroenterologist.

This type of bread to be excluded from its diet

Beyond additives, this type of food generally has a large dose of added sugars, saturated fats and salt. “They cause greater storage of fats, resistance to insulin, obesity and inflammation. All these factors are independently associated with an increased risk of cancer, in particular colon and breast”, Continues the specialist. If the doctor points to prepared dishes, crisps, industrial sausages, cold meats, ice cream, or mayonnaise, he also warns the general public vis-à-vis the pain blanc.

A set of foods identified by specialists as being able to promote the development of colon and intestine cancers because of their action on the microbiota. “They also destroy the protective layer of mucus which covers the surface of the intestinal wall. This layer of mucus serves as a barrier between the cells of the intestinal wall and the bacteria, fungi and viruses living in the intestine. Direct contact between the intestinal wall and the microbiome can be a factor of inflammation and lead to an environment that promotes the development of intestine cancer”concludes the specialist.
