Elon Musk and Sam Altman argue in public: tech leaders at the playground

Sam Altman and Elon Musk have not been playing in the same team for a long time. And it is a real open battle that is played on X. Elon Musk launched hostilities by accusing Apple of promoting Chatgpt on the App Store. The billionaire estimates that the Cupertino firm “Makes it impossible for any other company to succeed by promoting Openai in any way possible”.

Except that several community notes on X recalled the facts to Elon Musk: Deepseek and Perplexity reached the top of the App Store in 2025.

Sam Altman was quick to respond with a personal attack: “This is a remarkable affirmation given what I heard that Elon Musk did to manipulate X for the benefit of himself and his businesses and harm his competitors and the people he does not like.”

The situation has become even more lunar when a user asked Grok to share his opinion on this answer.

The Chatgpt account then retweeted Grok’s response by adding “Bon bot”. Elon Musk found himself humiliated on his own social network.

Grok grants too much credibility to traditional media sources. It is a major problem and we work to correct it.”

Then the attacks continued for a while. Elon Musk notably renamed Sam Altman in “Scam Altman”. Tesla’s leader also accuses his former friend of “Ly as easily as it breathes”. The publication is accompanied by an image of Chatgpt which agrees to convince him to vote Kamala Harris but not Donald Trump.

Despite all Elon Musk’s attacks, Openai dominates the AI market in front of XAI. If criticisms took place during the launch of GPT-5, the chatbot remains the undisputed leader.
