End of course for the TLX

The luxury brand of Honda, Acura, will end the production of its intermediate sedan TLX at the end of July. Another car falls into battle.

This decision was motivated by the progressive and lasting stretch of its sales. Barely 840 copies found takers last year in the country. It was very far from the summit of 7,100 sales recorded in 1999, while the sedan was called TL. According to the Desrosiers Automotive firm, 87.3 % of vehicles sold in Canada during the first half of the year were light trucks. An undivided domination which obviously hurts the conventional car.

Built in the Marysville assembly factory, in Ohio, the TLX was an extension of the TL line launched in 1995. It was the subject of a complete overhaul in 2020 to technically distance itself from the Honda range with the return of the type S. It had a 3 L V6 of 3 l turbocharged 355 hp designed for the full-up-end. to compete with the German offer at more affordable prices. Although convincing and well assembled, it was not a huge threat to the tenors of its segment.

L’Acura integrates 2026

With the departure of the TLX, the ACURA range is almost essentially limited to SUVs and multisgments of various templates. The integra compact sedan, derived from the Honda Civic, remains very alive to ensure the entry level of the manufacturer. It also receives a refreshed design for 2026 and an update of its multimedia system with a larger screen (9 in). The 1.5 l turbocharged four-cylinder engine of 200 hp remains on the menu with a continuous or manual variation box, as desired.

The departure of the Acura TLX will undoubtedly not cause a climb to the niche, but we can only deplore this heavy trend towards the swelling of the formats of the models which increases prices and which undermines their dynamism.
