“Europe will be stronger with Moldova” says Prévot in Chisinau

On the agenda: meetings with the Moldovan president Eur Europhile Maia Sandu, deputies, young people, as well as a visit to a solar energy park. This is a symbol of sustainable development and the integration of Moldova into the European energy network, to the chagrin of the Russian giant Gazprom.

The opening of Moldova’s membership negotiations to the EU in June 2024, at the same time as Ukraine, “shows that the reforms bear fruit and that the European door is indeed open”, according to Mr. Prévot.

In his eyes, the country leads reforms at high speed to get closer to the European Union, by tackling the strengthening of the rule of law, the fight against corruption and the modernization of its institutions. “The advances of Moldova are impressive, despite limited administrative means and a fragile economy.” All, under the blows of Russia – cyber attacks and massive disinformation campaigns – which seeks to destabilize society and undermine European CAP, he underlines.

The legislative elections scheduled in Moldova on September 28 will be “crucial” to confirm the European path of the country, while “Russia tries, by propaganda, manipulation and destabilization, to question the European choice of population.”
