Ex-Senator Percy Mockler engages in the fight against hunger in Canada

Ex-Senator Percy Mockler joined the Board of Directors of Food Banks Canada this summer. The neo-Brunswick politician calls the number of Canadians who are hungry in 2025 as unacceptable “and is giving himself as a retirement mission to join the fight against this scourge.

Originally from Saint-Léonard, Percy Mockler was a deputy for six mandates in the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, Minister, then Senator for 15 years. He left political life in 2024 at the age of 75.

And it is not because it is retired that he intends to put his convictions aside. When he was asked to integrate the Board of Directors of Food Bank Canada, he did not hesitate.

I thought it was a ” Fit ” of my careerhe says. I have always had the goal of making our regions a better place to live, a better place to work, a better place to raise our children and also a better place to reach out to the most vulnerable.

Of his 42 years in politics, Percy Mockler has often publicly insisted on government’s obligations towards people living in poverty.

It is also that he understands the issue since he lived it during his youth in Saint-Léonard.

My mother was single -parent and had two children. I knew the Wellfare. I remember the importance of receiving, at Christmas and even Easter [des dons de la part] people from our communityhe shares.
