Public health confirmed two new deaths on Wednesday in connection with the heat wave in Montreal, after a premier reported Tuesday.
In addition to these three deaths, two heat strokes have been reported to the authorities, the CIUSSS spokesman for Center-Sud-de-l’île-de-Montréal, Danny Raymond said by email.
He gave no details, neither on the profile of the victims nor on the circumstances of deaths and heat strokes.
“These are special cases, so we cannot comment,” he wrote in response to the questions of Journal.
At the beginning of the week, the regional public health department of Montreal had asked that it was reported in any death in connection with the heat that occurred 24 hours after the arrival of a patient at the hospital.
She had reported her intention to list heat strokes in the metropolis.
The overwhelming heat has been falling in southern Quebec since Sunday. Since then, several temperature records have been broken and the humidx has come close to 40 on several occasions.
In 2024, 15 deaths related to heat had been confirmed in the metropolis. Most deceased people were over 50 and suffered from preexisting chronic diseases.
