Google is preparing a good improvement on the side of photos and other images in Android 16. According to our colleagues from Android Authority, indeed, a new selector arrives in the latest version of the operating system. This adds little more welcome. Starting with a new gesture that allows when displaying the mosaic of photos, making a multiple selection of a simple shift on the screen.

The grid itself can be re-diminished by a pinch between the thumb and the index. Enough to adjust the view effortlessly; Allowing to better see the images of images without opening them, while leaving you the moment after selecting all the following photos, for example. Another welcome novelty: new categories allow you to better distinguish the photos you have taken, images from applications.

Android 16 is preparing to simplify the selection of photos through applications

There are two new categories “of your apps” and “of this device” in which the shots are automatically stored. The first allows, among other things, to find more quickly shared photos in applications like WhatsApp – there again without having to open the latter and go rush in the conversations. The second list the files in which photos are stored.

Whose file for example Downloador Quick Share. We are talking about the photo selector available everywhere as soon as an application requires access to images. Which promises to prove to be very practical. Alas, these changes are still in beta, and are only visible, in the latest android 16 Canary build with the Play System Update update of August 2025.

It will therefore be necessary to wait a few more weeks to see it all happen in a stable android 16 stable build – mainly on the Google Pixel. For devices from other brands running Android 16, the wait will likely be a little longer.
