Fire in the Aude: Fire pollutants threaten air quality in Toulouse and Ariège

The strong fumes released by the Aude fire will degrade air quality in Toulouse and Haute-Garonne, but also in Ariège and in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

Intense plumes of smoke has been in the sky of the Aude for 3 days. Black fumes, a polluted air, which extends to the neighboring departments. This is the result of Occitania’s observations, the body responsible for monitoring air quality in the region.

It announces an episode of pollution with PM 10 particles in the Aude and indicates, that due to the movement of the air mass loaded with pollutants from the fire, the concentrations of PM 10 and PM 2.5 could increase on a part of the Haute-Garonne, the Ariège and the Pyrénées-Orientales. The PM 10 appellation designates the particles whose diameter is less than 10 micrometers, the name PM 2.5 The diameter less than 2.5 µm.

Atmo Occitanie also warns that with the heat wave announced for the end of the week in Occitania, air quality will deteriorate on the rest of the region due to the increase in ozone concentrations. The strong sunshine and high temperatures promote this concentration of ozone.
