Five tips to continue running during the summer while enjoying your vacation

We logically turned to Belgian Forest Gump, Jimmy Minet, to get some practical tips. The one who runs every day, without exception, since March 1, 2020 likes to have a vacation in the south of Europe, without forgetting his daily release.

“Cold winter or heat in summer is not what stops me”he laughs.

1. Plan your agenda

“On vacation, we quickly made excuses. Aperitif, activities, warmth. The important thing is to wedge a moment in the day, just to be sure to go there and take a little time for yourself.”

2. Do not always seek ease

“It seems simple but, if it is hot, never leave without water. Me, as soon as it does more than 15 degrees, I leave with a bottle at arm’s length. It also makes a little muscular (laughs). However, do not necessarily flee the sun. If you have for example a racing goal during the summer, it is important to train in real conditions. If your future competition is scheduled for 15 hours, late at night.

3. Release the pressure

“These are the holidays. You can allow yourself to release a little. It can be an ideal period to recover from certain small sores. It has already been my case personally. Because I run a little less and that, too, the mood is probably a little more positive during the summer period.”

4. Adapt

“It is important to adapt to those around him and not the other way around. Do not impose a vacation spot on your family because you want to go running. It may be the best way to be disappointed. At my level, I always look for the south of Europe as a vacation destination, where there is a lot of sun. It never prevented me from running, even despite the heat.”

5. Check your routes

“It is important, before venturing, plan a minimum the route of its release. Sometimes our watches offer key routes under door but it remains important to know where we are going to set foot. I remember one time when I found myself in a crest in mountain villages in front of two shepherd dogs. It was my bottle of water that helped me keep them away.”
