Flood of requests from the IVZE program in January: Tesla may have its $ 20 million from the federal

The Tesla de Québec store, which had made more than 4,000 subsidy requests for the purchase of a new electric vehicle in three days, will be entitled to its $ 20 million reimbursement of the IVZE Federal Program.

This is the conclusion of a survey carried out by Transport Canada concerning a tsunami of requests transmitted in the space of 72 hours by the company of Elon Musk.

“All eligible requests will be reimbursed,” replied Transport Canada by email.

The Federal Ministry will announce on Friday that it will make all unpaid requests to Canadian dealerships through the same portal that had been used for subsidies of $ 5,000.

This administrative chaos started after the announcement by the federal government to end the IVZE program. There remained an amount of $ 71.8 million in the chests to subsidize nearly 16,000 vehicles.

However, this envelope had been dilapidated between January 10 and 12. Some owners had had difficulty taking possession of their new vehicles.

“The end of the program was communicated in the wrong way,” says Charles Bernard, principal economist of the Corporation of Automobile retailers associations. We will hope that the portal, which has experienced some technical problems, is effective, for a quick refund. ”

A relief of $ 12 million

At the four corners of Quebec, the owners of Quebec dealers will be able to sigh.

It is more than $ 12 million in unpaid requests that they have been waiting for since January. For some concession groups, we are talking about an amount valued at several hundred thousand dollars.

During a transaction, the concessionaires advanced the amount to their customers before being reimbursed by the federal government.

“We are happy that this unhappy story is coming to an end,” said the president of the Corporation of Automobiles in Quebec (CCAQ), Ian P. Sam Yue Chi. The terms will be known on Friday, and we hope this will allow our members to turn the page. ”

However, like its members, it keeps a bitter taste in the mouth compared to this program which aimed to foam the sale of an electric vehicle.

“This episode had deleterious effects on the bond of trust between Quebec dealerships and the Government of Canada,” adds Sam Yue Chi. It is imperative that the latter learn from this situation.

“Transparency remains essential if you want to rebuild trust.”

Already back?

In order to relaunch the sale of electric vehicles in the country, Transport Canada studies the possibility of reinstating an incentive for consumers.

“We are examining ways to reintroduce an incentive to purchase up to $ 5,000, which supports Canadian workers, strengthens our national supply chains and reflects current reality,” said the ministry in writing.
