Football: Edimilson Fernandes returns to Switzerland, in Young Boys

The 29 -year -old Swiss international joined the Bernese club. He signed a four -year contract.

Edimilson Fernandes (29) is back in Switzerland. Pressure on the side of Sion and Young Boys, the Swiss international (34 selections/two goals) chose the capital’s club rather than a homecoming in Valais.

Edmilson Fernandes, who was still under contract with Mainz until June 2026, signed up for four years with Young Boys. Last year, he was loaned to Brest by the German club, playing the ten Breton club’s Champions League matches.

Trained in Sion, he started his professional career there in 2013, before being transferred to West Ham United in 2016. Edimilson Fernandes therefore chose to return to the country at 29 years old. “I discussed a lot with Christoph Spycher (Sports Director) And Mathieu Beda (Technical Director)who convinced me of the project, explained Fernandes. I had some offers abroad. But for my family, it was better to return to Switzerland. I know what awaits me in YB, I am convinced that we have a big team and that we can do great things together. ”

Edimilson Fernandes had already worn the Young Boys jersey, from February to June 2022. In his career, Adimilson Fernandes experienced four of the large European championships: the German Bundesliga (98 matches), the English Premier League (42 matches), the Italian series (29 games) and the French Ligue 1 (19)

Edimilson Fernandes passed his medical visit on Sunday, before signing his contract and going to join his new team, in training camp in Austria. “The trip to Austria was a bit long, but I arrived well, I am happy,” said Edimilson Fernandes.

“We are very happy with the arrival of Edimilson,” said Christoph Spycher. He is a versatile player with great experience. He will obviously have the role of leader in the midfield. Its qualities will strengthen our group, no doubt. ”
