Flanked by his iconic number 34 and sheep of captain completed around the arm, Granite Xhaka made his debut on Saturday in his new colors with the ease of a club taulier.

At the Baguette de Sunderland, the Basel was able to celebrate a very promising victory against West Ham (3-0), on the first day of the Premier League.

Transferred this summer to the English neopromu from Bayer Leverkusen, Xhaka directly put on the costume that is his: that of the boss of the midfield.

And that Murat Yakin reassures himself, his captain has lost none of his grinta. Impeccable in the duels in front of his defense, hard on the man but delicate in his passes forward, he dictated the game of his new team.

Soundland, promising beginnings

A first successful success also on the billboard. The Stadium of Light could exult for the first time at the 61e minute. Eliezer Mayenda came to place his head on an Omar Alderete center, to launch this new season perfectly.

Sunderland doubled the 73eagain of a head cover, this time signed by defender Dan Ballard, mounted on a corner preceding his success which had ended at the forefront. The third goal fell during the stoppages, signed by the entrant Wilson Isidor on counterattack (92e).

For his return to the Premier League, Sunderland looked great throughout the match, with a big presence in duels and the desire to impose his paw on the game.

The public of the Stadium of Light, already spoiled by the sun, could not dream of a better fate, he who was waiting to regain the elite of English football since 2017.

This is also a successful first for the French coach Régis Le Bris, appointed a year ago at the head of the team in the red and white jersey. Fourth in Championship (2nd div.) At the end of last season, the 49 -year -old Breton had obtained the premier league at the price of stunning victories during the dams in Wembley.

Newcastle it sharp frustrate

The Premier League resumption was much dull and frustrating for Newcastle and Fabian Schär, hung 0-0 at Aston Villa, eleven against ten, and still disturbed by the Saga Alexander Isak, its star scorer who is forcing to leave.

Fulham for his part torn off a point at the very end of the meeting on Brighton’s lawn (1-1) thanks to a goal from Rodrigo Muniz in additional time.

Another Brazilian Premier League punctured the screen on Saturday, and it was not necessarily the one we expected the most: Richarlison, with a delicious double, carried Tottenham towards the victory against Burnley.

No 9, often criticized for its lack of precision, delighted its supporters at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with twice, including one acrobatic, on recruit services Mohammed Kudus (10th, 60th).

He who had only scored four times last season in the league was also involved in the action of the 3-0 concluded by Brennan Johnson (66th, 3-0).

Spurs supporters sang in full lungs “European champions, we know what we are”, in reference to the title won in the Europa League, and they reserved an ovation in Mathys like when the Frenchman, victim of racism after his missed penalty against PSG on Wednesday in European Supercup, replaced Kudus at the end of the match.

Thomas Frank, who arrived this summer from Brentford, succeeded in his first in the league with the club in northern London, but he will now have to confirm to teams better armed than Burnley.
