The COGAT, an organization of the Israeli Defense Ministry, said on Monday that the aid sent by 120 trucks was “distributed” the day before by the UN and humanitarian organizations in Gaza. Malnutrition has reached alarming levels, according to the UN.
(Keystone-ATS) “More than 120 trucks were received and (the foodstuffs they wore) distributed yesterday by the UN and international organizations,” this organization said on X which oversees the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Israel said on Sunday a break from daily fighting “for humanitarian purposes” in certain sectors of the Palestinian territory ravaged by almost 22 months of war.
Many humanitarian organizations operating in Gaza noted for months having faced constraints and restrictions preventing them from responding to the humanitarian crisis: limitations on the types of foodstuffs, heavy administrative constraints.
“A more regular reception and distribution by UN agencies and international organizations allow more aid to be sent,” said the COGAT on Monday. He said that “180 additional trucks had entered Gaza and were now waiting to be received and distributed”.
Between 500 and 1000 pre-war trucks
More than two million Palestinians live in the Gaza Strip, where before the war between Israel and Hamas, “between 500 and 1000 trucks entered every day. And the needs have since increased exponentially, “Bushra Khalidi, an OXFAM NGO official, commented in an interview with AFP on Sunday.
Israel faces increasing international pressure concerning the dramatic humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory, where he very partially relaxed at the end of May a total blockade imposed in early March, which led to serious shortages of food, drugs and other basic necessities.
“Some trucks will not be enough”
“For children who have endured months of famine, some trucks will not be enough to repair the damage already caused,” said Bushra Khalidi calling for a ceasefire and a “constant and large-scale flow of aid to Gaza”.
The restrictions imposed on the media by Israel, which besieged the Gaza Strip since the start of the war, and the difficulties of access to several areas prevent AFP from independently checking the information of the various parties.
