No summer break for doctors. At least for the three that have been consulted in general medicine in the Montmorillon hospital center for a year.
This new service had been opened on June 3, 2024 to compensate for the undeveloped departures of four general practitioners in the city. A relief for the general practitioners who did not have the capacity to accommodate the equivalent of a patient of 4,000 people, and for the inhabitants who found themselves overnight without an attending physician.
“Consultation slots are not 100 % filled”
“The general medicine service remains open this summer, Indicates Cécile Beneux, director of the Montmorillon hospital. For the past year, it has been working well. Consultation slots are not 100 %filled. We are in the order of 70 to 80 % filling. A full day represents 28 consultations, with an average of a quarter of an hour per consultation. »»
Good news for patients, the general practitioners of the hospital are not saturated. “It is possible to make an appointment quickly”, underlines the director.
The three general practitioners are a hospital specialist, a doctor from Gençay presents two days a week and a retired doctor. They provide permanence four days a week, from Monday to Thursday.
The pace is 65 patients per week. From 1is January to July 11, 2025, 1,825 consultations were provided. From June to the end of December 2024, the hospital had all 1,621 consultations.
“We found that this offer made it possible to rejuvenate the patient’s patientsnote Cécile Beneux, cAR we have children, chronic pathology consultations, prescription renewals. »» This service is also a solution for new arrivals in Montmorillonnais.
The effect is also beneficial for emergencies, which are less requested. Consultation slots are reserved for patients addressed by the SAMU regulatory center (Tel. 15), which lightens the pressure on emergency workers.

A reception area for patient associations
A reception area was opened near the general medicine consultation rooms within the hospital. It is intended for associations informing on different pathologies that have been ongoing for a month.
This place allows you to meet volunteers with or without an appointment, which are or have been affected by the disease. This space is a meeting place between patients and volunteers, complementary to exchanges with nursing staff.
The associations present are France Alzheimer, the League against Cancer, France Parkinson, the association of patients carrying a localized prostate (APCLP), FNATH (Association of Accidents of Life) and Ellye (Ensemblemia Lymphoma Hope).
A Cirda permanence is also held there. This is the information and collection of the CHU anticipated directives. The CIRDA collects the choice of patients in case they are no longer able to state their a posteriori wish, in the event of degradation of the state of health.
