City of Geneva: Speed up by the police, “Boubou” found his house

Municipal police collected the lost bird on the balcony of a company and entrusted it to the bioparc. Its owners recovered it on Wednesday.

An intervention like no other. A week ago, municipal police in the city of Geneva was called to help … a parrot. The animal, visibly lost, had taken refuge on the balcony of a company on the sixth floor of a building, at rue de Lyon, in the Charmilles. “The bird was very cooperative with the staff. He stayed on the back of an employee for a long time. It is quite unusual, according to specialists. It shows that he felt comfortable, ”says Christophe Nardo, communications officer for the municipal police.

Without being able to identify its owner, the decision was made to entrust the beast to the bioparc. “It is our privileged partner when it comes to exotic animals,” emphasizes the communicator. According to them, this parrot is a cream! “

Found thanks to Instagram

Called “Boubou” by the city officials who rescued it, it was taken care of by the Geneva refuge. In the process, the municipality made an Instagram post to relate the unusual intervention of its agents. “It created a lot of emulation on the social network. We had more than 88,000 views in a few hours, ”explains Christophe Nardo. Result: the information went up to the owners of “Boubou”, a couple of Genevans, who thus found his animal, in perfect health.

“This story is fantastic. It’s really a happy ending! “

Tobias Blaha, Director of Bioparc

This young eclectus, a male born in 2024, is actually named “Yasmine”. Wednesday, his family came to recover it. “It was a very moving moment. Visitors had tears in their eyes. The owners were super happy to find their bird. They imagined him dead, caught by a fox or lost, says Tobias Blaha, director of the bioparc. Municipal police acted in a very professional manner. We had excellent collaboration. This story is fantastic. It’s really a happy ending! “

“We were afraid that it was an abandonment,” says Tobias Blaha about Yasmine. And for good reason: between early January and late July, the bioparc recorded 120 new arrivals (mammals, reptiles and birds), for most abandonments. “It’s an absolute record!” Normally, this corresponds to an entire year. There, we are only halfway. ” Fortunately, this time the story ends well. “It was a great pleasure to see that the parrot was just lost and that its owners were actively looking for it. Unfortunately, with Tiktok and Instagram, people adopt exotic animals – far too easily, according to him – to make fun videos. But when they carry out all the maintenance and money that it requires, they abandon them. ”
