The Administrative Council of the City of Geneva challenges a second time with urgency the Swiss Federal Council, Asking him to “transform his commitments into actions in the face of the humanitarian crisis that rages in Gaza”. Having welcomed Switzerland’s membership to an international declaration signed by 28 foreign ministers, aimed at an immediate cease-fire, the City of Geneva now insists on the need for concrete measures. “Since May, incessant bombardments and severe restrictions have plunged Gaza into a humanitarian disastercausing more than a thousand deaths among civilians and an alarming famine, “said a statement.
The Genevan executive calls for “strengthening diplomatic and economic pressures on Israel, notably advocating an embargo on colonial products and on armament exchanges”.
Other municipalities invited to follow Geneva
“The protection of civilians and humanitarian workers, as well as immediate access to international aid, must be guaranteed,” asks the administrative council which encourages Switzerland to play a mediator role for sustainable peace and to Consider recognition of the state of Palestine.
This advocacy finds an echo among other Swiss municipalities, which are invited to join this call in favor of humanity. Geneva recalls that Switzerland, as a goalkeeper of the Geneva conventions, carries a historical and moral responsibility, claiming that each voice is crucial to put an end to this humanitarian drama.
