Neighboring France has a unique command for mobility
Responsible to coordinate the development of sustainable transport, this authority aims to reduce nuisance in the region.

- A new central authority now oversees mobility for 145,000 French inhabitants.
- A unique ticket at 2.50 euros will be established in the agglomeration of Annemasse.
- Self-service bikes will be available in Saint-Julien-en-Genevois at the end of 2023.
- The territory welcomes fifteen new cars and 6000 inhabitants annually daily.
Only one structure to bring them all. From the 1stis July, the municipalities of the Metropolitan Pole of the French Genevois as well as Annemasse have a central organization regulating most of the decisions concerning mobility. The aptly named, but redundant Geneva French Mobility will plan the development of various infrastructures such as school transport, the tram, cycle paths or the P+R. This authority will act on a territory of nearly 145,000 inhabitants spread over 29 municipalities.
“It is an essential lever to reconcile development, territorial equity, efficiency and decarbonation,” says Christian Dupessey, president of the metropolitan pole of French Geneva. Our ambition is that tomorrow we can federate even more intercommunalities in the metropolitan pole. ”
Bus launch
Moreover, very concrete projects are already planned. Let us quote the resumption of the regional coach line Y11 (Saint-Julien-Annemasse), the creation of a unique ticket at 2.50 euros in the areas of Annemasse and the French Genevois or the launch of self-service bikes by the end of the year in Saint-Julien-en-Genevois.
The long -term goal of French Mobility Genevans is to “offer a credible alternative to the individual car, especially for audiences far from mobility services”, as the organization indicates.
Repeated caps
Indeed, there is an emergency: the region regularly suffers from traffic jams and air pollution. The fault of its proximity to the canton of Geneva, which attracts tens of thousands of pendulums every day. As the authorities of French Genevans recall, fifteen more cars roll on the territory every day and 6000 additional inhabitants settle there every year.
“We have been dreaming of seeing buses crossing our territories for fifteen years, flocked metropolitan pole of French Genevans, demonstrating our ability to speak in one voice. The administrative boundaries of our territories matter little about our population, ”concludes Gabriel Doublet, president of Annemasse Agglo.
