Grok 4 now accessible free of charge to all users

Since Sunday, XAI has extended access to its artificial intelligence model Grok 4 to all users, regardless of their subscription. Initially reserved for paid subscribers, Grok 4 is now available for free users, offering them the possibility of using Auto and Expert modes.

The auto mode automatically assesses requests to decide whether a quick response is sufficient or if a more in -depth treatment is necessary, while the expert mode allows users to manually activate more reasoning if the initial response does not satisfy them. On the other hand, the Grok 4 Heavy model, the most advanced in the Grok 4 family, remains reserved for Heavy Supergrok subscribers. In addition, the Grok Imagine image and videos generation functions remain limited to users located in the United States.

This decision to open GROK 4 to free users comes shortly after the launch by OPENAI of its GPT-5 model accessible to all registered users. The official XAI account announced that this extension of access would be temporarily accompanied by “generous use limits” in order to allow everyone to fully explore the capacities of the model.

In addition, Elon Musk, owner of XAI, recently rendered the GROK Imagine Free Grok Imagine function for all American users.

Paid subscribers, however, will keep preferential rates to access all advanced Grok features. During a Spaces Conference last week, Elon Musk spoke of its intention to soon integrate advertisements on Grok platforms, in order to finance the high costs linked to computer equipment (GPU) necessary for the operation of the chatbot.
