Hamas accepted a new proposal from the mediators on a truce with Israel in Gaza on Monday, associated with a release of hostages selected in the Palestinian territory, said an official of the Islamist movement.
The efforts, in recent months, of the mediators-Egypt, Qatar and the United States-have so far failed to lead to a lasting ceasefire in the war which has ravaged the Gaza band for 22 months, where, according to the Civil Defense, 19 Palestinians were killed on Monday in Israeli strikes and shooting.
At the end of the afternoon, no Israeli officials had yet commented on this truce proposal presented in Hamas in Cairo.
Hamas gave its response to the mediators and confirmed that it accepted the new proposal for a cease-fire without requesting changes.
This diplomatic revival comes at a time when the Israeli army is preparing to conquer the city of Gaza and the neighboring refugee camps hitting its control hitherto, under a new plan adopted with the displayed objective of ending Hamas and freeing all hostages.
Truce and release of hostages, in two waves
The proposal accepted by Hamas resumes the main lines of a previous American plan. She is based on that of the American envoy [Steve] Witkoff, who provides for a 60 -day truce and the release of Israeli prisoners in two waves
