An inmate with a heavy criminal record, escaped in June from the interregional secure hospital unit of Nancy, was arrested on August 6 in Woippy, near Metz, during an operation in the presence of the RAID, the prosecution announced Thursday. The 32 -year -old man had fled on June 11, taking advantage of a visit to the hospital to escape his detention.
Placed in pre -trial detention, he will be tried on September 26 for escape. He risks up to five years in prison, a penalty that would be added to the one he has served since the start of the year. Liberable in January 2028, he was sentenced in February by the Metz Court of Appeal to three years’ imprisonment for aggravated flight.
A first in twenty years
According to the Republican East, the fugitive had managed to spread the bars of the window of his room, located on the first floor, after having coated the body of a frost to facilitate its passage. The establishment, open for twenty years, had never experienced an escape.
The detainee is “mainly known for acts of property damage, but also traffic offenses, outrageous offenses, drug use, violence,” Clara Ziegler, assistant prosecutor of Nancy, said at the time.
