The Rhône, Isère, Drôme and Ardèche will switch to red vigilance for the heat wave from Tuesday noon, while this Monday, at least four weather stations have already beaten their absolute heat recordannounced Météo-France Monday afternoon.
The stations concerned are in Bergerac (Dordogne), Cognac (Charente), Saint-Girons (Ariège) and Bordeaux (Gironde).
In this last city, Mercury reached 41.6 ° C around 4 p.m., against a previous record of 41.2 ° C on July 23, 2019.
In Bergerac, at the same time, it was 41.4 ° C, at Cognac 40.6 ° C and in Saint-Girons 39.7 ° C, said Patrick Galois, forecaster in Météo-France, during a press point.
“Heat progresses north”
He stressed that in these last three cities, “these are not the final values. The maximums can still progress up to 5 or even 6 p.m. depending on the weather situation. ” Other cities could also be added, while the peak of the heat wave is expected this Monday and Tuesday.

On Monday, twelve departments were already on a “red” heat wave, the highest degree existing.
“Strong heat progress towards the northeast and especially on the center-east,” notes the national forecastist in his 4 p.m. bulletin.
From Tuesday 12 noon, all the departments of the Grand Est and Ile-de-France regions, as well as the Loiret, the Aisne, the North, the Oise and the Corse-du-Sud will be added to the Orange Vigilance Territories.
The Charente and the Charente-Maritime, in red on Monday, must go back to orange from Tuesday 6 a.m.
The “very intense, even exceptional heat peak, in a vast southwest” raised the maximum temperatures on Monday to more than 40 ° C, notably in Toulouse, Carcassonne and Montauban with 41 ° C.
Tuesday during the day, three-quarters of France will be on red or orange vigilance, with the exception of a small north-west quarter (17 departments in total), including Brittany and the Manche to the Pas-de-Calais.
Second heat wave of summer
Temperatures will remain “very high in the southwest, the 40 ° C which can even reach the Aquitaine coast in places, while the hot weather won north and the east”, warns Météo-France: 36 to 38 ° C are expected from Val de Loire to Île-de-France and Grand Est, 40 to 41 ° C in the Rhône valley to Lyonnais.
France has undergone its 51 since Friday Fridaye Heat wave since 1947 and her second in the summer of 2025. According to Mr. Galois, she should last “at least until the weekend of August 15” and could even “undoubtedly” continue until August 19 or 20, which means that “the overall episode could last from twelve to fourteen days”.
That of the beginning of the summer had lasted sixteen days, ranking among the three longer waves of heat in the country.
“We are on exceptional intensity,” said Damien Griffaut, a permanent forecast for Météo-France.
If it is still a little early to make comparisons with other heat waves known by France, this heat wave could be of the “same order of intensity” as that which the country knew in late June/early July, Lauriane Baté, climatologist at Météo-France said.
