A specialized territorial maternal assistant for nursery schools (ATSEM), aged 59, was charged this Monday, July 28, 2025 for acts of rape and sexual assault on minors under the age of 15. She is currently in pre -trial detention. The facts relate to nine children, aged 3 to 4, educated in the nursery school in Vic-la-Gardiole, in eastern Hérault. This school welcomes around 100 students divided into four classes. The alleged gestures would have taken place within the establishment, mainly during nap times or in the toilet. An alert transmitted to the town hall and two complaints

The Montpellier prosecution opens a preliminary investigation, entrusted to the gendarmes of the Castelnau-le-Lez-Lez research brigade. The suspect is placed for the first time in police custody on July 4. It denies the alleged facts, and police custody is lifted the same evening.
The gendarmes continue the investigations. They identify 29 children having been in regular contact with the questioning during the school year. All are heard and examined by a medical examiner and an expert psychologist. Five children are first identified as potential victims. On July 28, a second police custody was organized. During hearings, seven additional children are reported. In total, nine children are considered today as alleged victims. Some have not yet been examined.

In its press release, the rectorate expresses its solidarity to the children and the affected families, evoking facts “of exceptional gravity.
